Oregon State Police

• At 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25, Oregon State Police arrested Logan James Cates, 20, Mt. Vernon, for driving under the influence of intoxicants-drugs. He and a passenger, Britt Mitchell Wilcox, 19, John Day, were cited for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

Grant County Sheriff

CANYON CITY – The Grant County Sheriff’s Office reported the following for the week of March 7-13:

• Concealed handgun licenses: 8

• Average inmates: 21.7

• Bookings: 9

• Releases: 16

• Arrests: 1

• Citations: 2

• Fingerprints: 6

• Civil papers processed: 10

• Warrants processed: 3

• Assistance/welfare check: 2

• A Mt. Vernon boy was cited for third-degree assault.

• Gregory Lightfoot, 44, Hillsboro, cited for possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and driving while suspended-misdemeanor.


John Day dispatch worked 139 calls during the week of March 10-16. Along with the various traffic warnings, trespassing, injured animals, noise complaints and juvenile complaints, these calls included:

• John Day Police:

March 11: Cited a Hillsboro man for speeding.

March 13: Report of a 4-wheeler accident on Bridge Street.

March 16: Cited a John Day man for driving-while-suspended violation.

• Oregon Department of Transportation:

March 10: Rock slide reported in Picture Gorge.

• Grant County Sheriff:

March 10: Report of an assault at Grant Union Junior-Senior High School.

March 12: Arrested a Monument woman followed a domestic call.

March 16: Cited an Alabama man for speeding.

• John Day ambulance:

March 10: Received a call about a person with an allergic reaction.

March 12: 89-year-old woman with a possible heart attack.

March 16: Responded for a man with difficulty breathing

• Seneca ambulance:

March 11: Responded for a woman with a diabetic issue.

Justice Court

CANYON CITY – The Grant County Justice Court reported the following fines and judgments:

• Melissa Flores was convicted of two counts of contempt of court. For each, she was sentenced to 10 days in the Grant County Jail.

• Adam Garrett Jennings was convicted of one count of contempt of court for failure to appear. He was sentenced to 48 hours in jail.

• Permitting unlawful operation of a vehicle: Matthew Allen Eades, 23, Prairie City, fined $260.
