JOHN DAY - Malheur National Forest Engineers announce that Iron Triangle, LLC will soon begin the Windlass Creek Culvert Replacement starting as early as Wednesday, July 15. This project will require the closure of a short section of Forest Road 4550592 for approximately one month. This is a through road extending from the 4550 to the 2055, so there will remain access from either direction once the road closure takes effect.

In addition, Iron Triangle, LLC also plans to begin the Upper John Day River Bridge Replacement starting August 1. This work will occur on Forest Road 6200778 on a portion adjacent to County Road 62. Crews intend to have this project completed by August 18.

These projects are part of an ongoing effort to improve aquatic fish passage on the forest. This work not only increases access to vital habitats for fish and aquatic organisms but also increases the lifespan of the culvert by decreasing potential damage from flooding and preventing debris buildup, said Holly Bentz, Assistant Forest Engineer.

Travelers are encouraged to plan their routes ahead of time to ensure safe summer travel and to avoid road closures.

For additional information, contact the forest at 541-575-3000.
