JOHN DAY - Curves has now opened at 422 West Main St.

Owner Carole Temple, who recently managed Curves in Burns, is excited about the new venture and her move to John Day. She said that Curves began in Texas in 1992 and has grown to include more than 6,000 facilities.

Hours at the upstairs JO Plaza location are 5:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. and 3-7 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Curves offers a 30-minute workout at several equipment stations designed for women to provide strength training by working every major muscle, a cardiac workout, and a stretching session to increase a person's flexibility. It is recommended to participate in the program three times per week. A weight-loss program also is available. The facility offers dressing rooms and showers. Figure analyses and a free tour are provided.

Anyone interested in finding out what it's all about is invited to an Open House 1:30-3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 5. Drawings will be held every 15 minutes, and one free month membership will be awarded. Refreshments will be served.
