BEND - The Deschutes National Forest will install a new snowmobile under-crossing one mile northwest of Crescent Lake Junction at Mile Post 68.75 on State Highway 58. Construction will begin Monday, Sept. 8, and should be complete by mid- November.

This project is in cooperation with the Oregon Department of Transportation, Federal Highway Administration and the USFS. "Recreational use has increased significantly in the area, with high snowmobile traffic during the winter months traveling to nearby snoparks," stated Marcos Romero, Project Engineer. "The underpass will allow recreationists to safely cross Highway 58 without impeding vehicle traffic flow." Once complete, the under-crossing will provide safe access across Highway 58 for both winter and summer recreational use.

The construction speed limit of 25 miles per hour will be enforced in the project area. A detour will be constructed adjacent to the existing highway and travelers may experience some delays until the detour construction is complete.
