JOHN DAY - The District 8, 1A Prep Basketball Tournament tips off on Thursday, Feb. 16.
For the first time in the event's history, the tournament will be held at both Grant Union High School in John Day and Prairie City High School in Prairie City.
Because two sites can host games at the same time, the event has been scheduled over three days, rather than four.
The event will feature 16 teams - eight each for the boys and girls competitions, with the top four from the High Desert League's western division and the top four from the league's eastern division playing off for district honors.
At tourney's end, the top three boys and top three girls teams will get to go on to the state playoffs.
Four teams from Grant County are at the top of the seeding.
The Dayville/Monument boys team is the No. 1 west seed, and the Prairie City boys team is the No. 2 team from that side of the bracket.
Among the girls teams, Prairie City girls is the No. 1 western seed, and Dayville/Monument is No. 2.
The championship games will both be played Saturday at Grant Union, the girls finals at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:45 p.m.
Tickets for games will be sold for specific two-game sessions. If games in a session take place in different locations, the hand stamp issued at one location will be good for admission at the other site.
Per session, admission is $5 for adults, $4 for senior citizens, and $3 for students (grade 1-12).
Tournament passes also can be purchased at the doors. The cost is $30 for adults, $25 for seniors, and $20 for students.
