JOHN DAY - Stephanie Dowdy was honored during the 2002 Grant County Fair with the Delley Officer Memorial Award. During an Aug. 10 awards ceremony, she was presented the revolving trophy, a plaque and Kershaw knife from last year's recipient, Justin Officer.
Dowdy was chosen by 4-H leaders and an interview committee as the 4-H member who showed the most courtesy towards 4-H members, leaders and the general public. She also demonstrated good sportsmanship, friendliness, helpfulness and enthusiasm during the fair.
This is the third year Dowdy was nominated for the prestigious award. For 10 years she has been an active 4-H member, participating in various activities such as swine, beef, livestock judging, rabbits, cooking, presentations, art, cross-stitch, educational displays, photography and shooting sports. For five years she served as a 4-H clerk, and was weigh-in clerk for two years. Dowdy also attended Eastern Oregon Leadership Retreat for three years, and served on the governing board for one year. She participated in Oregon State University's "Summer Dayz" for two years.
