JOHN DAY - On Wednesday, Jan. 22, at about 2:45 p.m., two Los Angeles, Calif., area residents were arrested on charges of possession and delivery of marijuana after their vehicle was stopped by Oregon State Police on Highway 26 approximately one mile east of John Day.

Arrested at the scene were Jonathan Romine, 22, and Dennis Heider, 20.

Police report that the pair were in a 1987 Toyota which was reportedly stopped by an OSP trooper for a traffic violation.

According to the police report, the trooper became suspicious when the pair became very nervous while being questioned.

Officers from the John Day Police Department arrived at the scene to assist, and police reported that consent to search the suspects' vehicle was obtained.

During the search, police reported they discovered over one-quarter pound of marijuana along with scales for weighing the drug, inside the vehicle.

Romine, who was reportedly a former John Day resident, and Heider were lodged in the Grant County Jail.

Police report the investigation is continuing, and additional arrests are anticipated.
