Eagle wins awards in ad contest

PORTLAND - At the Portland Hilton on Sept. 12, the Blue Mountain Eagle acquired nine awards for advertising excellence in the 2002 Best Ad Ideas Contest.

The contest, hosted by Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association, rewarded everything from house ads to special sections.

The Eagle won first place for best section cover and best institutional section, both recognizing the "Come Play With Us" visitors guide; best single house ad for a "Garden Grow" promotion; and best multi-sponsor ROP (run of press) advertisement for the Holiday Gift Express ad.

The Eagle took second place for for best black and white ad (Century 21) and best series (Mosier's Home Furnishing); and third place for best institutional/image ad (Veterans at GUHS, a Grant Union High School celebration of veterans), best section cover (Home and Garden) and best use of one color and black (John Day Office Supply).

Eagle general manager Diane Oster-Courtney, advertising representative Diana Jenison and graphic designer Pat Hutson Hammett were recognized at the awards banquet.
