JOHN DAY - The Grant County Economic Council will host a discussion about pending federal timber legislation and review a new visitors' map at its meeting Tuesday, Sept. 21.

The no-host breakfast meeting is at 7:30 a.m. at the Outpost Restaurant. The public is invited to participate in the discussion.

The timber discussion will focus on legislation proposed by Sen. Ron Wyden that seeks to restore the vigor of Eastern Oregon forests and also improve the flow of timber into the mills. The proposal has sparked debate over whether it would improve the local economy and forest management.

The Council is looking into whether the community can reach consensus on the measure.

The map project is near final production, but input is welcome about sites and information to be included. The highway-style map will highlight area attractions and also feature business directory ads.
