Kudos to the organizers who staged the District 8-1A basketball tourney last weekend. They - and the local teams - played host to a lot of visitors from throughout the region, and they did it with real class.

While the action on the courts was intense at times, our young people and coaches were gracious and respectful. In town, our businesses were welcoming. All in all, it was a good showing.

A tip of the hat also goes to the Grant County Snowballers and Gander Ranch, who unfortunately had to cancel the snowmobile races set for the same weekend in Bear Valley. The weather didn't cooperate this year, but we hope the organizers will try again. Given the right conditions, this could be a winter showcase for the county in the future.

The efforts shown by promoters of both events exemplify the energy and can-do spirit of Grant County. They make us us proud. - SC
