JOHN DAY - Without members the Elks could not exist, without dedicated members the Elks could not thrive.

The November Volunteer of the Month is one of the most dedicated Elk members of John Day Lodge, Marge Reddekopp.

A mother of two daughters, 35-year-old Kelie and 38-year-old Deann. Marge has been an Elk only three years and has become very active in the Lodge. After fifteen years of managing the Sunset Restaurant retirement allowed Marge to became a grandma volunteer at Humbolt Grade School working with special needs children. Marge enjoys being around people and delights in helping around the Lodge.

"Having no family in the area, the Lodge makes a big difference to me," Reddekopp said.

You'll find her operating the cash register during Friday night dinners, Monday Tacos and most special events and of course, she is always looking for that big win at Friday night bingo.

Marge has many fond memories of Lodge 1824, such as the elegance and poignancy of the Elks memorial service held for her beloved husband, Roy. She continues to enjoy volunteering at the Lodge especially during activities that involve children where most of the kids know her as "Grandma".

Edmund Hale wrote, "I am only one, but still I am one. I cannot do everything, but still I can do something; and because I cannot do everything, I will not refuse to do the something that I can do."

If you know Marge, you know she will not refuse to do anything she can. It is her attitude, her abilities and her perspective of the Elks that makes Marge a good Elk and John Day Elks November Volunteer of the Month.
