JOHN DAY - Harvest time has arrived in Grant County and a colorful Farmer's Market is planned for Saturday, Oct. 18, at Grant County Fairgrounds along with a carnival for the kids and good eats from the on-site concession stand.

The Farmer's market/craft sale, flea market will be held at Trowbridge Pavilion from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. An abundance of produce - summer/winter squash, tomatoes, cukes, carrots, eggplant, fruit, gourds - will be available at the fall fest. In addition, cut flowers, sunflowers, plant starts/herbs, baked goods, antiques and furniture, cosmetics, crafts, giftware and jewelry will be for sale.

The first Kid's Coin Carnival will operate from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the old Sale Barn. For a nickel, dime or quarter, youth will have a chance to win prizes in games of skill (and luck) such as: dime-a-toss dish game and beanbag toss; toilet bowl fishing; demolition bowling; and balloon darts and skill darts. Carnival chairman is Vickie Harrison and proceeds will benefit the new restroom project at the fairgrounds. Call the fair office if you'd like to contribute prizes or assist. According to fair manager Carolyn Stout, there are more than a dozen indoor/outdoor vendors so far, and there's room for more. Call (541) 575-1900 to reserve a space.
