JOHN DAY - The Malheur National Forest will be hosting trainings for wildland firefighter and support crews on April 19 and May 3 at the Malheur National Forest headquarters on Patterson Bridge Road.

The courses include Oregon OSHA Fire Training, Annual Fire Refresher, and Fire Shelter Deployment Refresher, said Jeff Pendleton, fire management officer.

The courses will be offered from 8 a.m. to noon on both days. Participants are asked to call Malheur Dispatch at 575-1321 to sign up.

The refresher classes are mandatory each year for anyone who might go to the fireline on a national forest fire. This includes drivers, dozer operators, and others in doing similar work. Oregon OSHA fire training is only required once. It does not have to be repeated as long as proof of prior completion is available.

Information on the 2008 Emergency Equipment Rental agreements is available online and at all Malheur National Forest offices. Those who do not currently have an equipment rental agreement or who signed an agreement during the 2007 fire season and would like to sign up a piece of equipment for 2008, should visit (www.fs.fed.us/r6/uma/contract/eera.htm) and fill out the form, or pick up a form at the front desks of the federal building in John Day or the Prairie City and Emigrant Creek Ranger District offices.

For more information, call Malheur Dispatch at 541-575-1321.
