BURNS - A recent cooling trend has prompted U.S. Bureau of Land Management and Forest Service managers to lower the Industrial Fire Precaution Level to a level II, effective Sept. 11, reports Ray Hermit, Burns Interagency Fire Zone manager.
"Firewood cutters may operate power equipment between midnight and 1 p.m. and must stand a one-hour watch period before leaving the cutting site. The off-road vehicle travel closure will remain in effect until further notice," Hermit said.
Change in IFPL rating applies to public lands in the BLM Burns District and Forest Service lands in the Emigrant Creek Ranger District only.
Burns Interagency Coordination Center Manager Jonathan Manski noted, "Local landowners and visitors to public lands in the BIFZ have done an outstanding job in preventing wildfires this year."
Manski added, "Conditions have been severe for several months and people have acted accordingly. It has been especially gratifying this year because throughout much of the summer, local fire fighting organizations were short on resources to fight fires due to out-of-area assignments. He asked the public to continue their vigilance through the rest of the fire season.
