JOHN DAY – It took nearly three weeks, but Grant County finally welcomed its first baby of the year for 2011.

Cory and Autumn Holland of John Day welcomed their daughter and first child, Torrence Nicole at 1:04 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 20, at Blue Mountain Hospital. She was delivered by Dr. Zachary Bailey.

The baby weighed 6 pounds, 13 ounces and was 21 inches long.

Grandparents are Tammi Holland of Portland, David and Lisa Holland of John Day, P.J. Le Blanc of John Day, and George and Connie Hatfield of Gresham.

With a due date of Jan. 11, Autumn said she thought they stood a good chance of their baby being the first one born in the county this year.

But as time went on, they figured they would lose out on that honor.

“This seems slightly late for the first baby,” Autumn quipped.

Both she and her husband work for Andy’s Plumbing and Sports Inc. in John Day.

The new couple received an assortment of gifts from area merchants, including a basketful of goodies, child’s rocking chair and stuffed teddy bear.
