Flamingos take up residence in Prairie City

Prairie City Booster Club welcomes residents to host pink flamingos (like those at left) as a way to support students. Contributed photos

PRAIRIE CITY - A flock of pink flamingos recently landed near Prairie City school in Larry and Carla Wright's yard.

The migration is part of a creative Prairie City Booster Club fund-raiser. The pink flamingo yard ornaments can be requested to be placed in Prairie City residents' yards for a $10 fee (donation to the Booster Club), or insurance can be purchased for $15 by the homeowner to prevent an "invasion."

Proceeds will benefit Prairie City Junior High and High School students.

To arrange for the flamingos to land or to buy insurance, call Marge Walton at (541) 820-4624, Carol Waggoner at 820-3590 or Linda Rockhill at 820-3709.

As the first area resident to be "flocked," Larry Wright reportedly was a good sport, but said, "They better be out by evening." Mysteriously, the birds have now moved on.
