Football Contest: Dole emerges as winner in tough week

Trey Mascall

Week No. 9 of the Blue Mountain Eagle's football contest proved to be a tough one and none of the 45 entrants did what could be called a bang-up job with their predictions.

Ashley Dole emerged as the winner of the $100 prize with a 10-5 record, the lowest winning margin of the season. On the plus side, four checked in with 9-6 records and six came in at 8-7.

Of the remainder, eight were 7-8, eight were 6-9, 11 had 5-10 records and seven finished 4-11.

There were a number of upsets this week such as Washington State defeating UCLA, Ohio State beating Michigan State on its home field in East Lansing, Notre Dame knocking off 11th-ranked Tennessee and the Oakland Raiders ending a 13-game road losing streak with a victory over the Carolina Panthers to mention a few.

Guest picker Gordon Larson finished below .500 going 7-8, and the Eagle staff was also a disaster in their predictions.

Ad Rep. Debbie Morgan and Graphic Designer Sierra Stafford were the best of the worst going 8-7, Editorial Assistant Marissa Allen was 7-8 and No. 1 and No. 2, Sports Editor Tim Adams and Customer Service Rep. Diane Reimers, were both 5-10.

Stafford's record vaulted her past Allen into a tie for the No. 2 spot with Reimers, while Adams is barely hanging on to first place with a 91-44 season record.

Time is running out and after this week, there will be just two weeks left in this year's football contest.

For Week No. 10, Grant Union's senior quarterback Trey Mascall takes his turn in the bowl as guest picker. Good luck to Trey on his predictions and good luck to all the Prospectors in their game against Regis on Saturday!
