Elk hunting had to be the reason for the small amount of entries for week No. 10 of the Blue Mountain Eagle's football contest. Only 28 of our faithful readers, down from our usual 45 or so, turned in their predictions, which leads me to believe the remainder had to have been out bugling for bulls in the hills surrounding the John Day Valley.

For the second time this season, Robie Ranft emerged as the winner of the $100 weekly prize finishing with a 13-2 record. His only losses were UCLA beating the Ducks and Kansas City losing yet another one, this time to the New Orleans Saints.

In addition to doing a great job quarterbacking the Prospectors to a 34-14 victory over Regis on Saturday, guest picker Trey Mascall finished with a 10-5 record with his predictions.

The race for the No. 1 spot among the Eagle staff got even tighter with Sports Editor Tim Adams holding a slim one-game advantage over Graphic Designer Sierra Stafford.

Stafford went 11-4 in week No. 10 to overtake Customer Service Rep. Diane Reimers who slipped into third place with an 8-7 finish.

This week, barber Frank Herrera was caught during a quiet moment at the shop in downtown John Day and agreed to to take a chance as the guest picker.

There are just two weeks left in this year's contest so if anyone hasn't taken the opportunity to enter, the clock is stopped for the two minute warning and time is running out.
