Frances Jean Porter, 73, of John Day died Dec. 7.

A graveside service officiated by Wally Williams will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 12, at Canyon City Cemetery.

Mrs. Porter was born Nov. 13, 1929, at Fargo, N.D., to Fredrick Aurther and Maime Roseann (Grassenger) Riebe. The family moved to Washington and settled in Oregon. She attended blind school and served as a Candy Striper at Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene.

On Oct. 13, 1947, she married Allen John Porter at Vancouver, Wash.

She owned and operated the John Day Answering Service for many years and, according to family, retired "the day she died."

She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and enjoyed homemaking and wreath making.

Mrs. Porter is survived by her husband, Allen John Porter of John Day; two daughters, Althea Domang of Houston, Texas, and Jennie Mund of Monument; two sons, Lorin A. Porter of John Day and Dean Porter of Salem; 10 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren; and two nieces Myra Marie Deming of Eugene and Diane Reed of Redding, Calif.

She was preceded in death by brother Frederick Aurther Riebe Jr. and two sisters Pearlie Valentine and Myra Barrett.

Driskill Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
