Frank Hathaway Andrus, 88, died Nov. 15 at Bend.

He was born July 31, 1914, to Grove and Margaret (Skinner) Andrus at Ritter, where he attended school.

Mr. Andrus was a sergeant in the United States Army during World War II and served in a medical detachment that cared for German prisoners.

In 1948 he moved to Roseburg and worked 29 years for the Roseburg Lumber Company before retiring in 1976. He resided at Fossil since 1998.

He was a member of the Lumber and Sawmill Workers Local No. 2949 for more than 50 years. He attended the Vine Street Baptist Church in Roseburg. His hobbies included woodworking and leatherwork.

Mr. Andrus is survived by his wife, Betty of Fossil; daughter, Dixie Ragan of Eugene and son Kenneth Andrus; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Douglas.

A memorial service was held Nov. 29 at the Roseburg National Cemetery with honors provided by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, District 12 Honor Guard.

Arrangements were by Long and Shukle Memorial Chapel.
