PRAIRIE CITY - The Grant County Genealogical Society has become well-known for its historic photo quilts which have been fund-raising events for the group. Recent quilts have featured historic buildings and schools.

Now they are seeking photographs of old barn pictures which they will copy onto fabric and incorporate in a future quilt.

The Society is hoping for equal representation of Grant County with pictures of currently standing barns from all corners of the county, even abandoned communities. If possible, pictures prior to 1920 and current photos of each barn are requested. Send submissions to: Grant County Genealogical Society, P.O. Box 418, Canyon City, OR 97820.

In other news, the Society will participate in the upcoming Downtown Stroll planned at Prairie City on Sept. 20. They will offer a Mexican dinner and silent auction from 5-8 p.m. at the Strawberry Grange 204 McHaley St. Those planning to attend are encouraged to buy tickets prior to the event. Dinner ticket purchases or donations for the auction can be arranged by calling Nadia Schultz at (541) 820-3752. Proceeds for the event will benefit building rehabilitation at Depot Park.
