EASTER SERVICES

Many area churches will hold Easter Services during regular Sunday services, and there will be some additional events to celebrate the occasion.

CANYON CITY - St. Thomas Episcopal Church will host a Good Friday service at 7 p.m. Regular 10 a.m. Easter Sunday services are also planned.

DALE - St. Katherine Catholic Church will hold services officiated by Father Julian Cassar at 12:30 p.m. on Easter Sunday.

DAYVILLE - Dayville Presbyterian Church, located on South Fork Road, will present "Hallelujah! He Did It" at the 11:15 morning service and will gather for Coffee Hour after the service.

FOX - An Easter Sunrise Service officiated by Pastor Marlin Brownell will be held 6 a.m. at Fox Community Church. Cornerstone Christian Fellowship will hold its regular 10 a.m. Sunday Service at 139 N.E. Dayton St., John Day. For more information, call Brownell at 575-2180 or 575-1323.

JOHN DAY - All are invited to a 6 a.m. Easter Sunrise Service at the Rugged Cross, Crisp Heights off Airport Road. The Resurrection Celebration will include music, prayer and scripture. A 7 a.m. Easter Morn Breakfast will follow at the United Methodist Church. For more information, contact Pastor Denny Diezel, Pastor Duane Cheadle, Pastor Dennis Sams or the Rev. James Retherford.

St. Elizabeth Catholic Church will celebrate Holy Week: Holy Thursday 6 p.m. service; Good Friday 3 p.m.; Saturday service at 6 p.m.; and Easter Sunday, Mass at 9 a.m.

First Christian Church, A free Easter Dinner after the 11 a.m. service. The meal will be served at 12:30 p.m. RSVP to 575-1202 at 1-3 p.m. Tuesdays or 1-4:30 p.m. Thursdays. The public is invited. The church is located at 311 N.E. Dayton St.

JOHN DAY-PRAIRIE CITY - The John Day United Methodist Church will hold a Maundy Thursday, dinner at 6 p.m. on April 17 followed by a foot washing at the Prairie City United Methodist Church. On Good Friday, a 7 p.m. service will be held at the John Day United Methodist Church.

MONUMENT - St. Ann Catholic Church will hold a 2:30 p.m. service on Easter Sunday. For more information, call Father Julian Cassar at 575-1459.

Easter Sunrise Service will begin at 6 a.m. at Easter Point on Top Road. The service is sponsored by the Monument Bible Church, and all community members are encouraged to attend the service and free breakfast, which will follow at Monument Senior Center. PRAIRIE CITY - A joint Community Easter Service will be held 10:30 a.m.-noon at Prairie City High School old gym. Chuck Neighbors will perform a one-man drama, "Encounters," depicting the life of Jesus. Refreshments will be served following the service. For more information, call 820-3696. Participating churches include the Assembly of God, Prairie Baptist Church, Grace Chapel and United Methodist Church.

EASTER EGG HUNTS

THURSDAY, APRIL 17 - Monument School will host an Easter Egg Hunt for pre-school youngsters through third-graders at 2:45 p.m. Thursday at the school.

FRIDAY, APRIL 18 - Valley View Assisted Living Residence is planning an Easter Egg Hunt for kindergarten through third-graders 1-2 p.m. Friday, April 18. Cookies and punch will be served. Blue Mountain Nursing Home in Prairie City will welcome youngsters for its annual Easter Egg Hunt 2 p.m. Friday, April 18. There will be several age categories and prizes will be awarded. For more information, call 820-3341.

SATURDAY, APRIL 19 -Long Creek Park will be filled with children as the Home Extension sponsors an Easter Egg Hunt beginning at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19. Youngsters aged pre-school to fourth grade are invited to participate. For more information, call Aliene Adams at 421-3187.

Elks family members and friends, newborn to age 13, can participate in the Elks Easter Egg Hunt beginning at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 19, at Seventh Street Complex. Prizes will be awarded. Organizer Brenda Mosier noted that this is a new location for the Elks Egg Hunt.

Dayville Park will be the scene of a Community Easter Egg Hunt planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, April 19. Children ages 0 through sixth grade are invited. Sponsored by the City of Dayville, 987-2188.

Mt. Vernon Fire Department's Easter Egg Hunt will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mt. Vernon City Park for youngsters up to age 12.

Prairie City will hold its Easter Egg Hunt at 11 a.m. Saturday at Depot Park. Children ages 0 to third grade are invited to participate.

SUNDAY, APRIL 20 - John Day-Canyon City Volunteer Fire Departments will host an Easter Egg Hunt for children up to age 12 at 2 p.m. Easter Sunday at Grant Union High School football field.
