BAKER CITY - The Grant Union girls basketball team held Baker at bay last week.

The Grant Girls beat Baker 60-55 Thursday, Dec. 18. The game was close throughout and Baker was only behind 22-16 at halftime. Grant Union increased its lead several times and was able to stay ahead for the win.

Grant Union was helped by Baker's 35 turnovers in the game. The turnovers led to fast breaks for Grant Union.

Katelyn Page led Grant Union with 18 points. Kiaya Wilson had 12 points and Natalia Yazzie had 10. Baker's Mackenzie Warner and Tara Talbott each had 10 points to lead the Bulldogs in scoring.

The win gives the Grant Girls a 4-3 record. The team is currently leading the state in scoring. They average 60 points a game. However, their offensive strength has been countered by defensive problems. They are last in the state for points allowed, with 55.

The Grant Union boys and girls teams will both host Joseph Saturday, Dec. 27. The girls will play at 4:30 p.m. and the boys tip off at 6 p.m. The teams will head to Heppner for the Heppner Tournament Monday, Dec. 29 and Tuesday, Dec. 30.
