JOHN DAY - School officials at Grant Union High recently received news that the school ranked 21st out of 329 Oregon schools for 10th-grade "met standards" in math and reading.

The school rankings were recently posted on The Oregonian newspaper's Oregonlive website in a compilation of test results provided by the Oregon Department of Education (ODE).

"Met standards" for science were not available for Grant Union specifically, but the ODE website shows that Grant School District 3's rating was good when compared with the state. The district had 74.7 percent of 10th-grade students meeting or exceeding the science standards, while the state's overall rating was 64.8 percent.

"It's exciting to see the hard work of the staff and students pay off," said Grant Union principal Mark Witty.

"We continue to strive to meet the challenge of preparing our students," he said. "Providing quality instruction will allow our students multiple opportunities for their future.
