PENDLETON - The Grant Union golf team returned to Pendleton last Friday.
The Prospectors competed at the 2A Invitational at the Wildhorse Resort Friday, April 11. They played the Pendleton Country Club course during the Pendleton Invitational April 4.
Grant Union finished in seventh place for the second time in two weeks. This time the team shaved five strokes off their total. They shot a 395 on 18 holes Friday.
Matt Goin led the team with a 96. Brennan Witty hit a 97 followed by, Clayton Whelchel 101, Jesse McMannus 101, and Zaquarie Mendenhall 112.
Enterprise again came out on top with a four-man total of 319. Echo earned second with a 333, Umatilla shot a 364 to earn third, and Vale came in fourth with 372. Tyler Hawkins of Echo was the men's low medalist with a 74, followed by Cole Sajonia and Marcus Anderson from Enterprise with 77s.
Heppner was the girls' winner with a team total of 455. Heather Bruce of Enterprise was the medalist with a 79.
Grant Union travels to Burns on April 16 and to Union on Friday April 18. The Prospectors will next play the Wildhorse Resort course during the Nixyawii Invitational April 25.
"I'm pleased with the way the boys all played," Grant Union coach Ron Lundbom said. "This was the first time at Wildhorse for four of the boys on varsity this week. We keep improving on our team totals each week and that's great. The boys all had fun and are eager to return in two weeks and improve on the holes that they had trouble on."
