ECHO – The Grant Union golf team got its season start at the Heppner Invitational last Friday.

Some members of the team were gone for spring break, and some are new to the sport, so coach Ron Lundbom said they played for “low medalist and fun.”

For the boys, Matt Broemeling shot a 104; Nathan Gehley, 108; and Chance Barrietua 154.

Boys low medalist was John Propheter of Heppner with an 18-hole score of 91.

Grant Union’s only girl golfer, Chenise Clark, scored 103. Low medalist for the girls was Blake Greenup of Heppner, shooting a tournament best of 88.

“I was impressed with the way the kids played today,” Lundbom said. “The condition of the greens made it difficult to play aggressive, and the kids handled it well for their first match of the year.”

Grant Union’s next match will be at the April 4 Pendleton Invitational.
