JOSEPH - The 10-member Grant Union High School wrestling team scored 103.5 points to finish in fifth place at the 16-team Jo-Hi Cosgrove Invitational Tournament on Jan. 3-4.
The prospectors had two individuals reach the tournament's finals, with Nick Stiner winning the 145-pound title with a third-period technical fall over Enterprise's Collin Cunningham.
Stiner was leading 15-0 when the referee called the match to a halt.
The victory lifted Stiner's season record to an impressive 13-2.
At 125 pounds, Josh Arnall lost a 6-0 decision to Culver wrestler Clint Baltazar to finish second.
Grant Union coach Dave Naibert said Baltazar is a good wrestler who had finished in third and fourth places at the state tournament in previous years.
Arnall's season record is also a good one at 13-4.
Reaching the consolation finals were Justin Cernazanu at 160 pounds, Toby Thomas at 130 and Sterling Horn at 135.
Cernazanu upped his record to 9-3 with a 12-9 victory to capture third place.
Thomas lost by pin-fall to Pat Lynn from Joseph to place fourth, and Sterling Horn was also pinned and finished fourth.
Thomas is 8-4 in season matches, and Horn boasts a 7-4 record.
"We had to leave some of our kids home due to illness, injury and because of the holidays, but overall the kids did a great job at this tournament," Naibert said.
Grant Union's next match is at the Riverside Invitational in Boardman on Saturday, Jan. 11.
