Hazel Fay Colbert, former Mt. Vernon resident, died Saturday, April 16, in Las Vegas, Nev. She was 82. A graveside memorial will be held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26 at Moon Creek Cemetery, west of Mt. Vernon. She will be buried beside her husband and best friend of 65 years. A visitation will be held Monday, April 25, from 2-6 p.m. and Tuesday from 9 a.m. until 12 noon at Driskill Memorial Chapel, 241 S. Canyon Blvd., John Day.
Mrs. Colbert was born Feb. 3, 1913, to Lloyd and Bertha (Phillips) Decker in Portland.
She spent her childhood in Texas, Colorado and Oklahoma She married Horace Colbert on Feb. 20, 1929, in Ada, Okla.
Moving west with three children, they eventually landed in Albany. Mrs. Colbert gave birth to two more children, completing their family.
Her greatest pleasures were caring for family and friends, gardening, crocheting, reading and watching Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune.
She was residing at the Del Mar Gardens Retirement Home in Henderson, Nev., when she died due to an illness.
She is survived by three children:-LaVada Vishoff of Las Vegas, Nev.; Len Colbert of Mexico; and Peggy Barnett of Halfway; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, who died in 1996, and sons, Haskell and Darrell.
