CANYON CITY - The Grant County Head Start Center, with its classroom to be located in John Day, still has a few openings for the preschool program which will begin in September, said Mark Lesniak, director of the program.

The center provides a preschool classroom for children ages 3 and 4, four days a week. A breakfast snack, lunch and transportation to and from the classroom on a school bus are provided.

Head Start also is offering a home-based program in Prairie City, which includes weekly home visits by a family advocate, and tuition paid for the children to attend the new Prairie City preschool program. This service is provided for 3- and 4-year-old children and their families.

Head Start is a federally and locally funded program. There are no tuition fees. To learn more about Head Start or receive an application, contact Lesniak at (541) 575-1349, or stop by the ESD office at 835 S. Canyon Blvd., John Day.
