Helen Barbara "Bobbie" Saunders of Mt. Vernon died March 10 at St. Charles Hospital in Bend.
A funeral service was held March 13 at the Driskill Memorial Chapel with Pastor Sams officiating.
Mrs. Saunders was born August 25, 1925 in Pasadena, Calif., to Robert and Helen (Walker) Damon and was the oldest of two children. She graduated from Mt. Vernon School and was a county rodeo princess. She received a bachelor of science degree in home economics at Kansas State University while her husband was overseas in the war.
She married Alfred Saunders July 19, 1946 in Mt. Vernon. She traveled with her husband for part of his service, living in Georgia, Ohio, Germany and France.
She was a member of the Woman's Air Core, achieving the rank of sergeant and was honorably discharged in 1946. She worked for Roy Kilpatrick, later Kilpatricks and Pope, for many years as a legal secretary and legal assistant.
She belonged to several organizations, including the National and State Legal Secretary's Association and the American Association for the University of Women. She was a chairman in the Republican Party on the local level and served on several local county boards, including the Election Board, the Library Foundation, the Library Board and the Art Association. She also worked various 4-H activities early in her life and was a 4-H leader and Cub Scout troop leader. She enjoyed painting, writing, gardening, sewing, weaving and reading.
Survivors include her husband, of Mt. Vernon; son, Bob of Portland; daughter Ellen of Albany and her brother, Jim Damon.
