JOHN DAY - Grant County's first baby has arrived! Welcome, Lauren Jade Wenger. Lauren was born at 1:07 a.m. Jan. 12, 2006, at Blue Mountain Hospital to Ray and Tanni Wenger of Prairie City.

Lauren weighed 8 pounds 13 ounces and was 22 inches long.

She joins big sister, Averie Mae Wenger, 3.

Before Lauren was born, people asked Averie what they were going to name the new baby.

"We have to wait and see what her tags say," Averie said.

Ray is a corrections officer at the Grant County Sheriff's office. Tanni owns and operates Country Curl in Prairie City. She plans to return to work in seven weeks.

The couple doesn't plan to have any more children.

"Two's enough," they said.

Paternal grandparents are Darrell and Phyllis Schultz of John Day. Maternal grandparents are John and Debbie Sanowski of Prairie City. Great-grandparents are Gordon and Sharon Mitchell of John Day; Marie Sanowski of Paulina; and Beth Gardner of John Day.

"Thanks to the doctors and nurses at Blue Mountain Hospital, and especially Debbie Stegman and Kellie Reid. We received excellent care," Tanni said.

As the first parents to give birth in Grant County, the Wengers will receive many gifts and certificates to help care for their new addition.
