Purple-and-white barrels are being placed all over Grant County for hunters to use to donate animal hides. All money raised from the hides benefit veterans.

The John Day Elks Lodge has placed barrels at Chester's Thriftway, Jackson Oil and Russell's Custom Meats and Deli in Canyon City, Texaco and Chevron in Mt. Vernon, Chevron in Prairie City, two barrels in Seneca and one barrel in Long Creek.

Last year, $2,000 was raised by hunters donating their hides. The Elks Lodge hopes to beat that amount.

The barrels will be available until January.
