PORTLAND - Prairie City's mayor, Stan Horrell, joined 69 other Oregon mayors June 9 on the Mayoral Walking Unit, during the Rose Festival parade in Portland.

Despite rainy weather, the mayors walked over four miles in the parade to represent their home towns.

"A good time was had by all," Horrell said. "I got a chance to talk to a lot of people from around the state and realized that all small towns have the same problems, things that need fixing and no money to do it."

Horrell said he was very impressed by the response of the crowd.

"The people were all so enthusiastic. It was really nice," he said.

A reception was held the night before the parade. Horrell also got to meet several representatives from other countries.

Granite's mayor, Fred Corbin, also walked in the parade.
