Jack E. Carl, 91, of Monument died Dec. 3 at home.

A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 15, at the Monument Bible Church.

He was born March 1, 1911, the youngest of seven children, to Robert and Rosa (Norden) Carl at Aberdeen, Wash., where he was raised.

As a young man he started his own logging company and worked in Washington and Indonesia. In the late 1970s, he lived in Guatemala and worked with missionary doctors and drove ambulance. He took many people into his home and was known as "The Gringo, Mr. Jack."

He had lived in the Monument area for the past 20 years.

Mr. Carl is survived by his wife, Maria of Monument and a daughter, Charlene of Portland.

He was preceded in death by a son.

Memorial contributions can be made to the Monument Bible Church.
