James Clifford Cauble, 64, of Portland died Sept. 21.

He was born Nov. 17, 1938, at John Day to James Alonzo and Kristine Nicolene (Benson) Cauble.

He grew up in the John Day Valley and graduated from Grant Union High School in 1957. Mr. Cauble served four years in the U.S. Army.

He moved to Prineville in 1962, where he owned a barber shop, and returned to John Day from 1982-87. For the past 16 years he resided in Portland, where he worked as an electrician.

He was a member of the Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks.

Mr. Cauble is survived by three daughters, Heidi Peoples of Selma, Ala., Jamison Conopa of Cove and Nicole Jones of Sherwood; son, Todd Cauble of Prineville; and 10 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Larayne.
