James Vernon Teeter, 81, of Prairie City died Oct. 6.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Canyon City Cemetery.

Mr. Teeter was born Jan. 31, 1921, at Eagletown, McCurtain County, Okla., to William James and Elsie Maude (Brummett) Teeter.

He served in the United States Army and was employed as a logger.

On Aug. 27, 1947, he married Doriene O'Leary.

He enjoyed hunting fishing and woodworking.

Mr. Teeter is survived by three daughters, Deborah Ward of John Day, Rose Fouch of Glendale, Ariz., and Denise Teeter of Glendale, Ariz.; son, James V. Teeter Jr. of Susanville, Calif.; three grandsons, Shane T. Hale of Hayfork, Calif., Jaylon Brock of John Day, Brandon Bauner of Glendale, Ariz.; granddaughter, Monica Ward of Burns; and great-grandson, Austin Holliday of Burns.

He was preceded in death by his wife in 1997.

Memorial contributions can be made to the American Heart Association.

Driskill Memorial Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
