John Day colder than normal in October

Temperatures were colder than normal in John Day in October. Above-normal temperatures expected in November.

Temperatures in John Day averaged colder than normal during the month of October, according to preliminary data received by NOAA’s National Weather Service in Pendleton.

The average temperature was 46.7 degrees, which was 2.7 degrees below normal. High temperatures averaged 61.2 degrees, which was 4.2 degrees below normal. The highest was 75 degrees on Oct. 2. Low temperatures averaged 32.2 degrees, which was 1.2 degrees below normal. The lowest was 21 degrees on Oct. 14.

There were 17 days with the low temperature below 32 degrees.

Precipitation totaled 1.46 inches during October, which was 0.47 inches above normal. Measurable precipitation was received on 10 days with the heaviest, 0.29 inches reported on Oct. 31.

Precipitation this year has reached 7.18 inches, which is 3.40 inches below normal.

The highest wind gust was 21 mph which occurred on Oct. 19.

The outlook for November from NOAA’s Climate Prediction Center calls for above-normal temperatures and near normal precipitation. Normal highs for John Day fall from 57 degrees at the start of November to 44 degrees at the end of November. Normal lows fall from 31 degrees to 25 degrees. The 30-year normal precipitation is 1.35 inches.
