It was a special day Aug. 28 at John Day Senior Center. A large crowd enjoyed a turkey dinner furnished and served by members of St. Elizabeth Catholic Church.

Father Julian Cassar played his flute, which is something the seniors always enjoy. Brianna Murphy Johnston entertained with three beautiful songs on her violin, perhaps learned while in England this past year. Chris Bellendeer of Driskill Memorial Chapel played his guitar. Special thanks to all for the entertainment provided in honor of those who had birthdays in August.

Don Caldwell and Judy Nelson were callers for bingo on Wednesday night. Sharon Steelman won $30 consolation for the $260 blackout. Kathy Gillihan and Jim Magee split $30 consolation for the $500 blackout. Join us every Wednesday night for bingo at 6:45 p.m.

John Day Senior Center was closed on Sept. 1 for Labor Day. Stuffed cabbage is on the menu for Thursday, Sept. 4, at noon; and a meeting will follow. Old-timers with a recollection of Grant County's historic roads and trails are encouraged to attend.

An adult Sunday School class was discussing formal and informal prayer. One man remarked, "I do some of my best praying while I am driving." From the back of the room in a quiet voice, the man's wife agreed, "I, too, do my best praying while you are driving." (Illinois George)
