JOHN DAY - There was an equipment failure at the Senior Center last week, so we did not have a meal there on Monday, March 1.

Our two very faithful volunteer persons, Don and Deda, used it to their advantage, and they swept and mopped all of the floors ... a wonderful thing for all of us. A nice clean place makes the meals seem much nicer.

On Thursday, March 4, our menu was barbecue chicken, salad, baked beans, rolls and brownies for dessert. The entree was furnished by Gardner Enterprises.

The servers were members of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Carol Thompson led the flag salute and Rev. Duane Cheadle filled in with the blessing. Grace Sweek won the certificate from Chester's Thriftway and Alma Joslin was given the free meal ticket.

Quite a few of us wore green ribbons for support of the coalition against the Aryan Nation's plans to settle here. There were photos of some of our group as they joined the protest with signs last week. And we have said we will be there to protest the next time, to keep our great area free of this type of people.

We will have our St. Patrick's Day dinner on Thursday, March 11, with corned beef and cabbage, potatoes, corn muffins and the birthday cake.

The menu for Monday, March 15 will be "cook's choice." A lot of us hope for biscuits and gravy, if we are lucky.
