ONTARIO - Making final preparations for the upcoming District 4-1A track meet, members of the Prairie City squad recorded some outstanding individual performances at the Ontario Invitational Track and Field Meet on Friday, May 7.

Competing against some of the top Class 1A, 3A and 4A teams in the region including Ontario, Vale, Nyssa, Baker, Burns, Powder Valley, Wallowa, Crane, Harper, Adrian and Jordan Valley, Panthers' coach Kellie Olsen said the girls did really well and are fully prepared for the district meet.

In the 4x100 relay, the quartet of Lindy Black, Cherise Ricco, Kayla Reid and Danielle Ricco ran a time of 53.4 to finish second behind Vale.-

Black also won the long jump event with a leap of 15-11.50 and finished third in the 400 at 1:03.08.

Danielle Ricco was third in the 100 hurdles in a time of 17.85, and Reid took fifth in the long jump at 14-3.50.

Jill Martens completed the Panthers' scoring with a fifth-place finish in the javelin on a throw of 96-2.

"The girls only ran in a few events and we were mainly focusing on working out some kinks before the district meet," Olsen said.

The Panthers continue to have nine of their 10 girls ranked among the top 10 competitors in the district.

Black is first in the long jump, the 200 and 400-meter dashes, and as a member of the 4x100 relay team. She is also ranked second as a member of the 4x400 relay team.

Reid is top-ranked as a member of the 4x100 team and second in the 4x400, as is Ricco.

Ricco is also ranked fifth in the 800 and sixth in the discus.

Danielle Ricco is first and second in the relay events, second in the 100 hurdles and third in the 300 hurdles, and Amanda Rockhill is the top-ranked javelin thrower in the district.

Sarah Cary is fourth in the long jump, seventh in the 100 and eighth in the 200, while Bradi Voigt holds down the sixth spot in the 1,500 and the seventh and eighth positions in the javelin and 300 hurdle events.

Jill Martens ranks fourth in the javelin and Melanie Teague is sixth in the shot put.

The district meet is scheduled for Friday, May 14, at Nyssa.
