DAYVILLE - Justin Larson was recently named to the Oregon 1A All-State Football list.

For his work as a defensive back, the Dayville/Monument High School senior received second team honors. As quarterback, he received honorable mention.

An athlete must show substantial skill in order to receive this honor, said Dayville High School athletic director Skip Inscore.

Gridders named to the distinction are named by their league, with tallies made from coaches throughout Oregon.

"He's among the best for the entire state in 1A football," said Inscore. "This is pretty exceptional."

Inscore noted that the last time a Dayville athlete was named to the list was in the mid-1980s, when Guy Gregg received the honor.

Larson was already selected for the Oregon East-West All-Star game, set for this coming June.

In about a month, he'll also know if he's been selected for the Oregon East-West Shrine game, said Inscore. Football players from 1A to 4A are selected for the game, with just two players coming from the 1A level.
