If anyone hasn't had the opportunity to participate in the Blue Mountain Eagle's 2004 football contest, this is your last chance of the year at the $100 first-place prize.

Last week, 36 players entered the contest with Samantha Snyder and Ken Gillihan tying for first place with 12-3 records. Normally; we would go to a tie-breaker to determine the winner, but both of them had identical predictions on the outcome of the San Francisco 49ers-Tampa Bay Buccaneers matchup; so they will split the winning money.

Sort of an unfortunate deal for Gillihan, but not for Snyder, who is a two-time winner.

Among the Eagle staff's predictors, Tim Adams, Sierra Stafford, Diane Reimers and Ad. Rep. Debbie Morgan all went 12-3.

This week, a lot of first-time college teams appear on the scorecard because a number of schools have ended the 2004 season.

Anyone who walks the streets of downtown John Day wearing a Green Bay Packers insulated jacket has to be a football fan; so I managed to collar Mel Jones at the post office and talk him into being this week's guest picker. Sure enough, Mel told me he has been a faithful player of the weekly contest for years.

Good luck to everyone!
