Laura Eunice Batchelder

Laura Eunice Batchelder of Mt. Vernon died May 29, 2006, at Country Spice Residential Care Facility. She was 83.

A funeral service was held Friday, June 2, 2006, at the Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor Dennis Sams and Pastor Dan Wiese officiating. Interment was held at the Canyon City Cemetery.

Mrs. Batchelder was born May 12, 1923, in Wichita Falls, Texas to Herbert and Blanche McBee. She married Kenneth Batchelder on June 6, 1943, in Wichita Falls, Texas, and in the 1970's his work brought them to the John Day area. After his retirement in 1986, the couple moved to Mt. Vernon to build their home in the pine forests that they loved so much. They were both a very big part of the community and very active in the church. Mrs. Batchelder was an avid lover of nature, an accomplished artist and musician, and taught many piano students in the John Day area.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; daughters, Karen Worden of Portland and Christina Beggs of Post Falls, Idaho; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her oldest daughter, Angela Dawn Batchelder Hill.
