JOHN DAY - The American Legion Auxiliary honored its winning Americanism essay writers Monday night, March 16, at the American Legion Alec Gay Hall in John Day.

In all, 15 students were cited in five grade-level categories. The first-place essays will be published in coming issues of the Blue Mountain Eagle.

The winners are:

Grades 3-4: 1st, Aimee Brandon; 2nd, Jessica Carter; 3rd, Kaitlin Bennett.

Grades 5-6: 1st, Ashlie Pulleiro; 2nd, Jerry Carter; 3rd, Meghan Rider.

Grades 7-8: 1st, Sarah McNeil; 2nd, Hannah Brandsma; 3rd, Connor Broemeling.

Grades 9-10: 1st, Nicole Lane; 2nd, Dayle Bentley; 3rd, Levi Gagnon.

Grades 11-12: 1st, Brennon Witty; 2nd, Brianna Murphy; 3rd, Kaitlyn Webb.

Judges were Lois Wacken and Elaine Husted.
