When I read the letter from Ted Merrill in last week's Eagle, my instant reaction was to laugh out loud. Finally a solution that could actually work here in good ol' John Day. When I called up a friend to tell them about it, their response was: maybe I ought to start buying the paper again.

The climate must be changing for the better around here if people with such radically different opinions to the "norm" feel comfortable and safe enough to come out and put them in print. I know I feel more apt to voice my thoughts about things more. So in closing I say, Hats off to you, Ted Merrill, and it's great that the Blue Mountain. Eagle is willing to recognize the needs of our ever-changing community.
