To the Editor:

I am very honored to be a neighbor of George and Nadine Carr in Canyon City.

Since moving to the area earlier this year, I have admired their faithful devotion to the daily task of raising and lowering their American flag each dawn and dusk.

As I became better acquainted with this lovely couple, I discovered that George is one of our beloved, decorated veterans of WWII.

I expressed my appreciation for his service with a gift of a flagpole light, hopefully easing their daily endeavor, as George suffers physically from his years of service.

However, mounting the light proved to be a precarious task. But with the help of the VFW, the American Legion and the kind hearts of Art Pereira, Dean Nodine and Bill Copenhaver of Miller’s Tree Service, the Carrs’ flag is now lit and displayed for all to honor and enjoy.

My sincere appreciation to all of you, but mostly to George, Nadine and our vets, for your years of service. Your dedicated patriotism is an example and inspiration to us all.
