BEAR VALLEY - EORenew will host a "Solar Cookery Equinox Extravaganza" beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21. The event is a solar cooking class and potluck dinner.

Jennifer Barker, author of the Morning Hill Solar Cookery Book, will give tips on solar cookery for beginners and experts. Participants are invited to bring solar cookers and food to cook: cakes, breads, casseroles, or anything that will cook in a slow cooker. She noted if the food will cook at a simmer in four hours or less, or bake in a moderate oven in 90 minutes or less, it's suitable for solar cooking.

About 4 p.m. the food will be shared during a solar potluck. Those who can't be there early to cook are invited to come in time to eat, and bring a side dish.

RSVP is requested by contacting EORenew, PO Box 485, Canyon City, OR 97820, or calling 575-3633.

The event is free and co-sponsored by the Oregon Office of Energy's Million Solar Roofs program.
