LONG CREEK - The Long Creek volleyball team had no problems picking up its second TriCo League win of the season with a three-game 25-22, 25-5, 25-12 victory over Harper on Saturday, Sept. 28.

With the victory, Long Creek is 2-1 in league matches and 6-2 overall.

"I thought we served the ball very well in the match," Long Creek coach James Hixenbaugh said. "We had four missed serves in the first game, but got a lot better after that. It sure makes a lot of difference when you are able to serve the ball well."

The first game of the match was close with the score changing hands several times until Joey Vaughan was able to serve the Mountaineers to a 22-20 lead.

A kill by the Hornets sailed long giving Long Creek a 23-21 advantage, but the Harper girls managed to battle back to cut the margin to a single point.

However, a mis-hit on a service return and a kill by Vaughan gave Long Creek the first game 25-22.

In the second game, Harper coach Rose Roberts used her junior varsity players and Long Creek was the easy 25-5 winner.

In the final game of the match, Miranda Bennett took over at the serving line.

With Long Creek holding a 14-10 lead, Bennett served 10 straight points to put the match on the line.

Harper finally managed to get the ball back and Kim Clark served for a point, but a returned ball sailed beyond the end line giving the Mountaineers the 25-12 victory.

Long Creek hosts Ukiah in a TriCo League match on Thursday, Oct. 3. Tip-off time is set for 5 p.m.
