Look who's here: A new optometrist opens office

Dean I. Brown, O.D., and his wife, Rhonda, hold children Spencer, 1, and Lexi, 3. Brown assumes ownership of Mountain Valley Eye Care in John Day. The Eagle/HEATHER SHEEDY

JOHN DAY - Dean I. Brown, O.D., arrived in Grant County to begin the new year and assume ownership of Mountain Valley Eye Care located at 401 W. Main St. He is now serving patients full-time.

Brown graduated in 2000 from Nova Southeastern University, College of Optometry at Davie, Fla., and also holds a bachelor's degree in sports medicine from Brigham Young University. For the past two years he's been practicing at Paris, Texas.

At Mountain Valley Eye Care, Brown will specialize in primary eye care, eye disease, contact lenses, and plans to develop a sports vision program.

Brown was raised and graduated from high school in Wyoming near Yellowstone Park, then served a two-year mission in the Philippines through the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He and his wife, Rhonda, are looking forward to being back in a small town. They have two children, 3-year-old Lexi and 1-year-old Spencer.

Doctoring seems to run in the family. Brown has two brothers who are optometrists and another who is a pathologist. His brother-in-law, who recently retired from the Air Force, also is studying to be an optometrist.
