Luella Mae Round Neal, who lived a ranching life and who enjoyed reading, gardening, rodeos, going to the senior center and spending time with her family, died Friday, July 8, at the Country Spice Residential Care Facility in John Day. She was 81. A graveside service was held Saturday, July 16, at the Monument Cemetery.

She was born in Hamilton October 2, 1923, to Chester and Vadra Round. The family lived on a sheep ranch in the Cottonwood area near Monument. She graduated from Monument School in 1941.

She married Lewis D. "Manny" Neal and they lived on the Neal family farm between Monument and Kimberly.

Neal is survived by a son, Bill Neal of Kimberly; a daughter, Sharylin Helms of Richmond; and four grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Vadra Bell; her husband, Manny; a sister, Helen Leathers; a brother, Kenny Round; and grandsons Tate Helms, Bud Neal and Don Neal.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Monument Senior Center through Driskill Memorial Chapel in John Day.
